• Fit the whole plate or bowl in the frame, in good light and in sharp focus.
• Shoot from above or at a slight angle, so every food is visible.
• Snap before you start eating, and scan one plate at a time.
• For packaged food, scan the barcode instead: the label is more precise than a photo.

On the result screen, tap − or + next to any food to change its portion before you log it. The calories and macros update as you go. You can also add or remove foods by hand.

CalWiz estimates each food and its portion from your photo. Portion sizes and hidden ingredients like oil, butter or sugar are the hardest parts, so treat the numbers as a good estimate, not a lab measurement. Calorie estimates are for general wellness, not medical advice.

Try again closer to the plate, with less background and better light. Photos without food aren't analysed, and a scan that finds no food doesn't use up a free scan.

Wait a moment and try again. Failed scans never count toward your free scans or your daily limit.

New users get 3 free AI meal scans. Describing a meal in words uses the AI too and counts as one scan. Barcode scanning, nutrition-label scanning, food search and manual logging are always free. CalWiz Pro unlocks everyday AI scanning with fair-use limits of 20 AI scans an hour and 60 a day, which keep the service fast for everyone.

In the US, CalWiz Pro is US$29.99 a year with a 3-day free trial for eligible new subscribers, or US$9.99 a month. Elsewhere, the app shows the price in your local currency before you buy. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel.

Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose CalWiz. You can also tap Manage subscription in the app's Me tab. To avoid being charged, cancel at least 24 hours before your trial or current period ends. Deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription.

Tap Restore purchases on the paywall or in the Me tab, using the same Apple ID you bought with. If it still doesn't work, write to us and pick “Subscription or billing”.

Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds are too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

No. CalWiz never asks for your name or email. Your diary, weight and goals stay on your phone.

For an AI scan, the photo is sent securely through our server to Google's Gemini AI for analysis. Our server doesn't store it. Only a small thumbnail stays on your phone. Read more in our Privacy Policy.

Open the Me tab and tap Delete my data. This erases what our server keeps for your app and the data on your phone. It doesn't cancel a subscription (see above).
